An Interview with CV!AOT

The second in a series of fictional interviews.

PhantomChic: Annette, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.
ANNETTE O’TOOLE: Well, I’m not usually the one people want to interview. Thanks for choosing me instead of Allison or Kristin.
PC: Actually, we’re interviewing everyone in the cast.
AOT: I see. *cracks knuckles*
PC: But I got the privilege of talking to you.
AOT: That's better.
PC: To start off, let’s clear up a rumor that’s going around. John Glover recently told TV Guide that you’re leaving Smallville next season. True?
AOT: False. That’s just John’s idea of a funny joke. He’s actually the one leaving. He’s got a new show on CBS.
PC: Great! So what can we expect for Martha this season?
AOT: I’ve got big plans for her. She’s going to have big storylines this year. Politics, maybe a love connection or two…
PC: You said you’ve got plans for her, how much input do you have with what the writers do with your character?
AOT: Quite a bit this year. The cast is going to be writing the episodes again. In fact, I’ve made a deal with our producers for an episode I wrote on my own.
PC: You’re writing again? Weren’t there issues with the Writers’ Guild after your season 5.5?
AOT: Yes, but now they’re out again and we’re back. So make of that what you will.
PC: Moving on, you shot twice the usual number of episodes last year with seasons 5.5 and 6. How’s the mood on set going into this season?
AOT: There were some tensions at the end of last season. Some of the cast were basically doing triple duty. And some of us got really good at freecell. But we’re all working together to craft the new season
PC: Do you ever have any problems working together to write these episodes? Do egos flair up?
AOT: We all have an interest in protecting our characters, I guess. Well, most of us. But we get along like any family. A little dysfunctional, a few squabbles here and there, the occasional fistfight…I’m kidding, of course. Really, what’re a few spiked brownies between friends.
PC: What?
AOT: Never mind. Let’s talk about the show.
PC: Right. So with John Glover leaving, does that mean the end of Martha’s relationship with Lionel?
AOT: Maybe, but that will leave Martha open to explore other love connections.
PC: Like Perry White, perhaps? Any chance we’ll be seeing your husband on Smallville again this season?
AOT: If the opportunity arises, I’d love to have Michael on set again. I’m pretty sure I could talk him into it.
PC: Any juicy spoilers for us?
AOT: Martha is going to start to come into her own in the political world. She’s going to working to improve her district, including sponsoring a new Meteor Freak Bill. She’s going to get a real staff and form other relationships, professionally and personally.
PC: And the rest of the characters?
AOT: I don’t know. Chloe’s got that new power thing and I’m sure Lex and Clark will be at odds. They'll get into some grey areas we’ve stayed away from before. Whatever. This is really going to be Martha’s season. And I’ll headlock anyone who says otherwise.
PC: Great. Um, I think I have to be going now...
