as retold by RepairmanBob
JG: Back at Ollie’s office. Ollie and Clark are arguing. “What the hell was she thinking Clark?”
TW: “What are you talking about? I just shut down Lex’s reactor!”
JG: “Have you seen today’s Daily Planet?” Ollie throws it to Clark. Cut to the front page – Secret Government Project Producting Super Soliders! Was LuthorCorp Involved in Dangerous Experiments? By Chloe Sullivan “You need to get your sidekick in line, Clark.”
TW: Clark looks at the article. “Hold on, Oliver. Chloe implicates Lex in human experimentation, illegal genetic engineering –“
JG: “And she lists their weaknesses! Check page four, where she goes into detail about 'Unstable artifical intelligence', or the 'vunerability to extreme heat or radiation' on page five. I personally love when she shows the blueprints of the satallite that controls the computer programming”
TW: Clark looks a little shocked. “I am sure she was just trying to –“
AM: Why is Oliver angry at Chloe? And why doesn’t the article talk about LuthorCorp?
JG: “I don’t care what she was trying to do. Chloe Sullivan just made it that much more dangerous for us to stop Lex and resuce his victims. The greatest advantage we had over Lex was his ego. He never imagined his toy soliders had any weaknesses, so he never had a reason to improve them. You fought a Project Ares Solider, Clark - you know how damn tough they are. Can you imagine what it will be like the next time we face one, now that your sidekick handled Lex a list of every weak spot we have found over the past six months?"
AM: Chloe is not a sidekick!
KK: Of course not. She is comic relief.
AM: No she is not!
AoT: I always found her crush on Clark funny. Funny or pitiful.
JG: I thought it was funny because it was pitiful.
TW: “Chloe is not my sidekick, Oliver. And I did not just come here to get lectured at. I thought about what you said, and I want to join the League.”
JG: Oliver looks surprised. “Well, maybe this isn’t a total loss.”
TW: “But I have some conditions, Oliver.”
JG: “I am listening.”
MR: Oh, this should be good.
TW: “What you and the League do is too dangerous. What if you blow up a site with a green K reactor? Or you miss some guards when you destroy a facility? If I join, I need you all to be more careful. I want full approval on all missions, guarantees of civilian safety, and checks made to ensure no damage to the environment. If we are going to take Lex down, we are going to do it the right way.”
JG: Oliver looks even more angry. “Despite how things might seem to you, Clark, the League isn't a dictatorship. I am going to present your demands remands to Bart, Arthur and Victor, and we will discuss them. I’ll be honest, though – if it was up to me, I would tell you to go to hell. You are impulsive, reckless, and the only person you work well with is an over-eager blond security risk. Got anything you want to share?”
TW: “Just this.” Clark throws Oliver a zip drive.
JG: “What is it, a resume?”
TW: “It is all of the data I got from Lex’s facility at Reeves Dam. Locations, staffing ratios, prisoner files, blueprints – everything you need to shut down Level 33.1.”
JG: “And how soon should I expect to see this in the Daily Planet?”
TW: Clark looks embarrassed. “I only gave Chloe the information about the Reeves Dam site. She has no idea any of this exists. Even if you decide you don’t want to work with me, you should still take down the other Level 33.1 facilities the right way.”
JG: Oliver looks a little calmer. “Maybe you are learning after all. But let me make one thing clear. You need to control Chloe. Either she runs everything, and I mean everything, that involves Lex by you, or we are finished talking. Can you do that?”
AM: No!
TW: “Yes.”
JG: “Then we’ll get back to you.”
JG: Lionel is having a video conference with Martha’s CoS.
AoT: He is using her Chief of Staff? What a bastard!
JG: You object?
AoT: Of course not! It is delightful!
JG: The CoS is listing off everyone Martha has met with over the past few weeks. “Wait, did you say a mutant rights advocate?”
TW: “Yes, sir. She seemed rather impressed with him.”
JG: “I am not sure I care for that. Limit his access in the future. Lose his letters, delete his e-mails, block is contact with the Senator, that sort of thing. I will send you some low level staffers who can be blamed and terminated if she learns of it.”
TW: “Yes sir.”
JG: “Arrange meetings with the lobbyists from al Guhl Ecological Projects and Henshaw Cybernetics. I will send you additional bills to bring to the Senator’s attention.”
TW: “Yes sir. I will take care of it.”
JG: Lex and Hope walk into Lionel office. “I have no doubt of that.” He ends the conference, and looks up at Lex. “Lex! I was wondering when you would come by. I would love to speak with you, but as you know human resources is on the 17th floor. Maybe we have an entry level position in janitorial you could apply for.” Lionel smiles. “I could put in a good word for you.”
TW: Lex smiles. “I know you did it, Dad. You helped Lana fake her death.”
JG: Lionel laughs. “Lex, you are delusional.”
TW: “Really, Dad? I have proof you and Lana framed me.” Hope holds up a mini tape records and plays Lionel’s phone conversation with Lana.
JG: Lionel stays cool. “That does not prove anything. We could have been talking before her tragic –“
TW: “I also have proof that Senator Kent pressured the DA to keep me in jail, despite to total lack of proof. I am sure the press would love to hear about the two of you working together.”
JG: Lionel pauses a second. “What do you want, Lex?”
TW: “Leave. Now. I will keep you on as an advisor to the CEO and Chairman, but you will not set foot in this building again, or I will destroy you and Martha Kent.”
JG: Lionel makes a dramatic exit. “I have better things to do that argue with you, Lex. Enjoy your victory. For however long it lasts.”
KK: Wait, Lex wins?
MR: Yeah, Lex wins?
TW: Lex needs to win this one. We can’t keep him in jail all season.
JG: Sadly.
TW: Lex looks around proudly.
